Strong Towns is a national movement dedicated to building financially resilient and livable communities. It promotes a bottom-up approach to development, prioritizing small, incremental investments over large, costly projects.
Strong Towns Pflugerville is a local group aligned with the Strong Towns movement, advocating for financially strong and people-friendly development in Pflugerville. We focus on practical steps to make our city more resilient and prosperous.
We share Strong Towns' principles but operate independently as a local initiative. We take inspiration from their work while addressing the unique needs of Pflugerville.
Yes, we are! On March 5, 2025, we were approved for nonprofit status with the State of Texas. We are working on our currently Federal Tax Exemption and hope to have that completed before the end of April 2025.
The "Guides" are the volunteers who have taken the "Local Conversations Leadership Coarse" from the Strong Towns Academy. They have signed a contract to advocate for local government reform and foster a culture of bottom-up change in Pflugerville.
You can find the Guides here.
No, we are a grassroots, non-partisan organization willing to work with anyone—red, blue, purple, etc.—to make our community a better place to live.
We advocate for responsible growth, smart investments in infrastructure, mixed-use development, and a financially sustainable city that supports local businesses and strong neighborhoods.
Incremental Growth:
Small, low-risk projects that improve our city gradually.
Financial Productivity:
Prioritizing investments that generate long-term economic value.
Bottom-Up Action:
Empowering residents to shape their own neighborhoods.
Resilient Design:
Supporting development patterns that make our community stronger over time.
A financially resilient city has a sustainable tax base, avoids costly infrastructure liabilities, and focuses on investments that create lasting value for residents.
Examples include street design that prioritizes safety, zoning reforms to allow small businesses and housing diversity, and investment in walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods.
No, we are not anti-car; we are anti-car dependency. We believe that all modes of transportation should have equal priority in our community. However, we also believe that everyone should be safe to move around their community however they can or want.
Aside from Pflugerville's fantastic trail system, our community has been almost exclusively designed for cars. Think about it... When was the last time you could walk, bike, or take transit to accomplish a daily task? We believe that the current pattern of development creates unsustainable places (financially and ecologically), too spread out, and hostile to life.
Anyone who cares about Pflugerville’s future can join—residents, business owners, planners, or community advocates.
